Thank you so very much for the encouragement and financial support during this journey. I participated in the Make-A-Wish Trailblaze Challenge on October 14, 2017 along with 81 others. We drove down to Lavonia, Georgia on Friday evening and enjoyed a pasta dinner (carb load). We retired early due to our 2 am wake-up call Saturday morning. Roll call was at 3 am and we headed to the trailhead at 3:15 am. Following a group photo, Group 1 started out on the trail around 4:30 am. I was part of Group 10 and started out on the trail at 4:43 am. At 2:08 pm, I finished ALL 28.3 miles…. blisters, fatigue, a busted toenail, dehydration….. and pure joy…. a true feeling of accomplishment, satisfaction and gratitude.
Why did I do this? To raise funds which grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. These wishes enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy. Although I’ve already reached my goal of fully funding one Wish, please donate…. it makes a huge difference in the life of a child and their family.
I’m personally thrilled that I was able to complete this mental and physical challenge. You may not know, but I suffered from a rare condition called Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease as a child. Although not life threatening, the disease prevented the ball and socket joint in my left hip from forming properly. I was forced to wear a brace on my left leg for 2 years to remedy the issue. I still have the occasional problem with this joint, so in a VERY small way, I begin to understand the limitations faced by these children.
I will likely do this again next year, so please be ready when I come calling !!
